These are challenging to find crystals. The short story of them is that they were mined in San Benito County, CA. The mine closed several years ago, and when the mine was viewed by officials looking to see if there was value in the mine they found the veins mostly empty. It is uncertain (though unlikely) if the mine will open again.

Benitoite was orginally discovered in 1907, and can be found in other sites such as Japan, however the primary source has been from San Benito County near the San Benito river. Benitoite normally comes with other rare minerals such as naturalite, neptunite, albite, joaquinite, and serpentine.
